I's still not clear to me if the jewlers knew beforehand of SiCs role as a faux diamond? If they thought the only faux diamonds were cubic zirconium, Austrian crystal and cut glass, they would only check for those defining characteristics.<<

The report stated that the only safe way to determine if they weren't real diamonds was to use a special piece of equipment.

As I remember it the fake stones were certified as real diamonds. In one case they mentioned that the $500 fake was certified as a $5,000 diamond.

Based on the questions you're asking it's obvious you need to get a transcript of the show. I'll be very interested in hearing what you find out. As a last resort, friend of mine taped the discovery program - there's a chance he still has it.
