We seem to have a few investors here almost entirely in cash. Mutual fund advisors and most analysts are quick to point out that those who attempt a market timing strategy as opposed to a buy and hold strategy will limit their gains.

However it's also true that markets go down much faster than they generally rise. Thursday's action was a perfect example of sell off dynamics. Fear over powered many long term rational investors who simply capitulated and sold.

Is this really a bear market?

Fear was so strong that even long term winners like CPQ and CSCO are no longer consider buys on a technical basis. I like these stocks a lot if we get a rebound however because they have earned their leadership positions.

The worst may be over.

I hope the U.S. market doesn't have to wait for overseas markets to recover before it begins another ascent.

Regards, Jeff
