In electronics, technology has advanced suddenly by the submicron lithography using buried layers. Flash memory especially is under pressure to use more LBA NAND flash memory. All the semiconductor manufacturers also use the latest design layout software to do solution as provider. This makes electronic vendors search for a niche to bridge the supply and demand.

Apple iphone is the first trial as the set-top box concept for cellphone and it can do triple play all by itself. But carriers are not yet conformed to the iphone hardware design. So, we expect carriers will have to work with Apple, or else both Apple and all the cellphone carriers will have incompatibilities, similar to set-top box of Mpeg4 without Mpeg 4 media that used cameras. Most set-top boxes in use are Mpeg2(DirecTV and Dish). Cable modem using ipTV can change by software to do carrier QAM, edge and multiplexer advancement.

Since there is a distribution of old set-top boxes of Mpeg2 codecs. Manufacturers of set-top box has to wait for carriers of cable and satellite to distribute new set-top boxes and new carrier codec. Cellphone carrier has to use more advanced QAM to handle iphone TV transmission.

This may take 5-10 years to switch technology. Many smaller manufacturers are not able to move all the carriers to adopt new codecs. since Mpeg1/2/3/4 are not compatible to each other.

Wall street valuation has to have tolerance when technology and number of users has to have distribution, that needs retail capacity?
