it wasn't a miscalculation, it was ignorance and arrogance. shrub pissed the entire world off within 3 months of taking office and now we are paying the diplomatic price for that. if he hadn't let rumsfeld and condoleeza shot their mouths of from the moment they were named there would be a UN-sanctioned coalition sitting in bagdad this very minute. part of diplomacy is not annoying the crap out of people unless you have a compelling motive to do so. NOW it is at least arguable he has a compelling motive to do so but he blew all the good will on ridiculous irrelevant stuff well before 9-11. putting the issue of war being right or wrong aside, this administration is diplomatically incompetent. imo.
