Visionics . . . Part 3

Licensing: Visionics is taking a page from Microsoft by making its technology available to independent software developers. For $4500, anyone can buy the technology in order to develop specific applications. After that, Visionics will license the use of its technology in the application. So far, there have been 50 sales of these packages.

Visionics at this stage sees its clients as OEMs and system integrators. Its products can be seen at the NY Biometrics Store and visited at www.faceit.com.

Visionics plans to go public "sooner rather than later."

My conclusion: Good company, mostly staking out a different universe than IDX, although there is some overlap. Face recognition has some security advantages in public places and prisons, etc., but is not as reliable as the fingerprint gold standard, and probably not as easy to implement over networks. If a takeover target, a relatively expensive one compared to the others.
