Interesting that you should mention this. I have had more trouble with Microsoft programs crashing my system (Word and Excel). I can't even use the spell check in Word because it crashes. I write in MS Word and check the spelling and grammar in Lotus WordPro. When I first started using Windows 3.1 programs, it blew my mind that MS
software was so prone to causing "General Protection Faults".

It also astounded me that the most common error message in Windows,
the "General Protection Fault", is not mentioned anywhere in the 560 page Users Guide for Windows 3.11 that came with my computer.

In the "Comprehensive Index" to this 3.11 manual, there is no entry under "general", under "protection", or under "fault". Under "error messages" it says "see Messages", and under "Mesages", there is no
reference to a GPF.

This ommission in MS documentation is itself scary, in that it could not be an accident. It is outrageous that a software company would leave their users hanging out to dry re. this frequent problem in order to avoid having to admit publicly to a weakness in their product.

I think IBM missed an opportunity "big time" by not zeroing in on the
dread and unacknowledged "General Protection Fault" in their marketing of OS-2.
