I think the most delightful scam I've ever seen was that car dealership who claimed that a doctor in their Spanish subsidiary had found a cure for AIDS... UPCA was the ticker. The graph is a thing of joy: bigcharts.com (notice how they suddenly got suspended...) The best explanation I can think of for this bizarre scam is that someone wanted to see how many minutes it had been since Barnum's dictum... and found a way to identify those who might have answered 'no' to the direct question.
