Bigger than any one market; down here but sales up there , like Tiawan Cutting expenses used to be routine mid-year intramurals . This PC Server sales news release closely suggests the (boat stealing) IBM I used to know.
IBM makes a supply deal with Acer than plans to take their server business away:
===== "IBM Taiwan has set its sales target for next year at 10,000 PC servers, which will account for a 25 percent share of the domestic market.
IBM's first-half server sales surpassed those of Acer Inc., its number one local rival. This made it the leading server supplier in Taiwan, and further widened its gap with Compaq Computer Corp. and Hewlett Packard Co., its two biggest foreign rivals.
This week, IBM picked Kaohsiung for its first exhibition of 21st century products in the Asia-Pacific region. The company hosted a technology seminar in that city on Aug. 23, exhibiting its Netfinity 8500 as well as a wide range of other new products.
In response to corporate demand, IBM has designed its new-generation PC servers to operate under Linux, and Microsoft's Windows NT operating systems. "
