Does Java really have a future for embedded products? This is the question that I hope others help. Embedded, by nature, is resource limited. Java is not only memory consuming but also slow. My personal take on Java for embedded is very negative. Especially in today's world of Internet, sites such as Yahoo provides calendar, Email, and other light applications. If one just have a browser, Yahoo! can provide the applications and the engine to run them. These Yahoo!-like sites bypass the write-once-run-every-where advantage of Java. Then why would we need Java for embedded system? Java Script provides client side execution ability and animated graphics. So where is the embedded market for Java? Is Java really suited for devices such as PDA, cell phone, and set-top?
