Just got this....

======================================================================
OREM, Utah, Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell, Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL) today
announced the resignation of Alan C. Ashton from the company's Board of Directors. Ashton joined the Novell Board of Directors following the 1994 acquisition of WordPerfect Corporation by Novell. Ashton was a founder of WordPerfect.
Ashton, 54, is leaving the Novell Board of Directors to pursue community
and other interests in Utah. His resignation follows Novell's sale in March 1996 of several former WordPerfect products to Corel Corporation. "We understand Alan's decision and wish him well in his future ventures," said John A. Young, Novell chairman.
In commenting on his departure from the Novell board, Ashton said, "With
the turnaround at Novell and its prospects for strong growth, now is an appropriate time for me to turn more of my time to community projects I have started in the State of Utah. I originally joined the Novell board to look after the WordPerfect and GroupWise products, but following the successful transfer of the WordPerfect product line to Corel, and the release of the outstanding new GroupWise 5, this job is largely complete."

This doens't really look like much, and would make sense if he came on with the WP buyout.
