Porta Systems Corporation and BMS Corporation Sign Alliance Agreement

Business/Technology Editors

SYOSSET, NY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 2, 2001--Porta Systems Corp.
(Porta) (AMEX:PSI) today announced that its Operations Support Systems
(OSS) Division and Business Management Systems Corporation (BMS),
leading suppliers of integrated OSS solutions for the
telecommunications industry, announced a strategic alliance whereby
they will cooperate in the areas of technology sharing, product
integration and joint marketing.
Under the agreement, Porta Systems will have access to provide
BMS' next generation integrated OSS suite for fault repair,
provisioning, assignment, network inventory, SLA management, workflow,
and work force management for the telecommunications industry
worldwide. The combined efforts of the companies will enable
communications service providers to improve their operations
capabilities by facilitating automated order management from initial
customer contact through the service provisioning and fault management
processes.
"This alliance will provide a scalable solution with an end-to-end
view of the network, suitable for carriers on a global basis," said
John Gazzo, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Porta
Systems. "To compete effectively in today's market, service providers
must be able to manage and grow their customer base while reducing
operations costs and achieving high customer satisfaction levels. One
of the keys to enabling this customer experience is a comprehensive
OSS solution with minimal integration requirements. Our experience in
developing and delivering world class solutions for the Copper loop
environment, combined with the BMS expertise in the transport network
and their proven integrated suite will provide carriers with a
comprehensive solution to achieve their goals in today's competitive
market. In addition, access to each other's customer base will open
complementary distribution channels and enhance each company's global
reach."
According to Gregory Howe, President and CEO of BMS, "This is a
commitment on the part of BMS to provide next generation technology to
Porta Systems and their customers, and this agreement allows Porta to
focus on their core business and to utilize their expertise in sales
and distribution to deliver the next generation OSS."
"The agreements in place are designed to facilitate access for the
companies to each other's customer base, to open complementary
distribution channels, and to enhance our global presence," said Howe.
"BMS is an active industry contributor in the movement to provide
greater flexibility and automation of the service assurance and
service activation components of operations. Our integrated approach
provides superior operational performance and cost efficiency, and
delivers workflow-managed process automation in support of traditional
and next-generation voice, data and VoIP networks."
The companies expect continued cooperation to focus on their
strengths and deliver superior solutions to the industry. Porta's
international presence in sales and distribution is complimented by
BMS' next generation product solutions and technical assets.
