Ashton's departure very significant.

He is number two shareholder.
His leaving represents, symbolically, the end of the Wordperfect fiasco.
His leaving may have been a condition for a new CEO coming on because no new CEO wants to have a Board that doesn't support him or is composed of good old boy cronies.
And even if none of this is true, it opens up the Board to more changes which are necessary to get this company going.
And even if that isn't true then it leaves a large shareholder whose shares are available to someone planning a takeover.
I'd say its terrific news!!!
