I agree that the DST doubling is great news, but it seems that the price/performance advantage, which should be even more marked once they achieve this, has been hampered by lack of marketing (who knows about Ampex?), lack of clout (it's basically a niche, albeit a growing one!) across a broad spectrum of storage products (they're competing against IBM and Sony, for goodness sake!) make the good DST news a welcome relief, but no home run yet. They need a lot more market success before people sit up and take notice industry wide. Many a poor product was bought by less than technical purchasing agents simply because the name pasted on the outside was good, NOT because the product was the BEST. Ampex is competing on performance (tops), bt price is high (bad). Even tho the price/performance ratio favors ampex, I assume in a lot of instances it's not hi enough to swing hordes of buyers away from buying a "name" product.
My hope is that as Ampex gets keepered out the door, and the mammoth 810 DST out the door, that their NAME will gather a lot more clout!!! in the industry, swinging more buyers, and more EPS, our way.
And remember, if they end up with a pocketful of cash, they'll be able to dust off some more of those hundreds of patents they have just sitting around. This research and development gold mine has a lot more tricks up it's sleeves that fresh millions will miraculously draw out.
PS: I too am a full grown Ampex bull. I was fully invested in the spring, waited almost too long to sell, and now am back in, 200%, in the 7's. Waiting for 30's... |
