Interesting response. You bring up a lot of interesting questions with the scenarios you outline. The next year is going to be extremely interesting for AMD and it's competitor.

I don't think ASP will be the problem, but since you asked, ASP will obviously go up. If AMD for some strange reason switches 100% over to K7 production, their ASP will obviously be the going price of a K7, which could be $500.

The only problem is how much K6-2 and K6-III production is AMD willing to sacrifice in order to move to the K7. Worse yet, what is AMD going to tell all of the Tier 1 customers like Compaq, IBM, HP, and Gateway? After all, these guys are counting on AMD to supply them enough el cheapo chips in order for them to continue their retail price wars.

Like I said before, it's a delicate balancing act. This wouldn't have been a problem had AMD depended on a backup foundry to help them in production, but they decided to choose their own path.
