Hi Matthew - Yes "as far as we know" Ashton still owns and controls his 5.8% interest in Novell"...If anything is in the works (as far as buyout or merger) then there was probably a sweatheart deal made to purchase all of Ashton's shares either by (1) Novell or (2) a possible suitor or (3) Both, as an incentive to bring over a new CEO or to expedite a friendly merger with ????(perhaps EDS??).

Isn't it interesting that Mr. Lester M. Alberthal Jr. President and CEO of Electronic Data Systems Corporation was in Provo Utah November 8, 1996. Do you think there were any discussions with Novell and EDS? Then on November 25, 1996 16:53 Novell adopts rights plan and the next day CFO SAYS COMPANY NOT FOR SALE. Finally On December 4, 1996 we hear that Ashton steps down from the Novell board of directors "to pursee other interests".....the story continues....

EKS <just trying to put all the pieces together...>
