Are you saying that "established" banks weren't making sub-prime loans?

There are still a lot of "sound" banks around that made prudent loan decisions and supported the loans they did make with sufficient reserves, but there are also a lot of banks around that had to go under or be bought out or ask the FED for bailout money.

Are we talking a matter of "degree" or are you saying it was "impossible" for banks to to make unwise loans?
