I think Kerry's telling the truth, that Berger never mentioned it to him, and that nobody who knew about it mentioned it to him, either. Which is extremely bizarre. A normal person in his shoes would be flabbergasted at the extent the wool was pulled over his eyes, given the gravity of the situation, don't you think?

Which only goes to show that even presidential candidates are ordinary human beings, as are presidents, and all around you people have incredible power and you don't know, can't know, their hidden agendas.

Recall Reagan being shocked at the arms-for-hostages deal. Nixon being shocked by Watergate. And of course it goes both ways, recall Clinton's staff being shocked by Monicagate.
