John,
Yes, Acer, Midwest Micro and AST sell Intel boxes and have for years.
Acer is one of the largest PC makers in the world. 4th if I recall.
AST used to be a tier 1 a number of years back but lost it. They are coming back on the low end.
They sell and Advantage line thru retail oulets that only use Intel chip.
Their Adventure line (lower priced, smaller monitor, desktop not minitower) is where they have introduced
the Cyrix chips.
I only mention Midwest Micro because they just recently started to sell
boxes with either Intel or Cyrix chips. Up to this point they only offered
only Intel chips at the Pentium Level.
They tend to emulate Gateway...ad and price wise. They are like smaller than Dell, Gateway and Micron
but still one of the larger mail order companies.
We`ll just have to see ow many defections there will be but I think those with the closest ties to Intel will stay totally intel as long as they can.
Especially those who rely on Intel for other components like Motherboards. Kind of makes since since there are no Intel motherboards on the Cyrix 6x86 approved list.
So it`s not as easy as plugging in another companys chip.
Jim
