Hi Dave

>>Emory, FWIW I've had no problems running both an HP IIcx and an NP 4c in between the SCSI adapter and a zip drive. Just make sure that the chain is terminated properly after the last device.<<

Thanks (I guess <gg>) for the information. You might as well muddy up the waters too! <GG> I'm looking at the HP 6200Cxi scanner so I don't know if it has fewer SCSI plugs than your IIcx. Maybe some bean counter figured this would be a way for HP to save a few bucks - remove one of the plugs and force the user to put the scanner at the end of the chain.

I won't know for sure until I either talk to someone who has the 6200 or I have one in my own hands.

I hate having to be so nitpicky about tracking down all the details but sure as heck if I don't I'm going to end up getting bitten.

>>Were I in your position, I'd probably go for the P2B-F, unless I had reason to believe that there were particular problems with it. this will let you get the SCSI card that works best for you. I had heard of anecdotal problems with the built-in SCSI on that board. I'm sure it works fine for most, but if it didn't, you'd effectively be out a PCI slot.<<

Makes sense. I'd thought that if I took the P2B-S route the costs would be less and I'd have more options in the future. I haven't been able to price it out yet because of not knowing what SCSI board(s) HP (I'm still not convinced HP gave me the right Adaptec card #) and IOM recommend.

>>I had heard of anecdotal problems with the built-in SCSI on that board.<<

Thanks for the heads-up. My primary concern is having a reliable system so I'm very interested in this sort of information.

>>Sorry it's been such a hassle.<<

It's probably not all that bad. I must have misplaced my St. John's wort.
