Infoworld Magazine of 3/29 lists the top five leaders in PC sales in fourth quarter/1998 as follows:

Number of Computers shipped
Compaq (1,949,000)
Dell (1,375,000)
Gateway (981,000)
IBM (978,000)
HP (777,000)

According to this story:

"The United States, Western Europe, and Asia will help drive the global PC market to new heights in 1999. Worldwide, the number of PCs shipped this year will increase by 14.3 percent over 1998 figures, hitting 103.2 million units, according to an IDC (International Data Corp.) global forecast."

CPQ just received a very strong endorsement from a local investment adviser because of its strong upside potential--it's his top stock pick for the day at $30, so I bought some. It's already up 3/16----I can't complain! :)
