Sure. Look up 'worm' sometime. What could have happened is that the virus accessed your phonebook and sent the content to somewhere else. That is what a worm does. Looks for information and forwards it somewhere else. The novel "Shockwave Rider" invented this concept in the 1970s.

Why is the worm not showing up on any of my scans? I have done scans from 4 different scanners....all showing I am clean. I am doing a 5th right now called stinger from Macafee,

Umm, not to alarm you or anything, but do you have credit card or bank info stored on your computer? It is also possible that the virus had a keyboard logger. So, in addition to rifling data from your computer, it may have also logged data you entered from the keyboard for your various accounts. You might want to be sure you aren't being fleeced.

No credit card or bank info but my brokerage accounts. I know things are safe on Etrade......Fidelity might be the problem.

I am wondering if this is a new infection. There is nothing online except complaints like mine.....of getting bogus Mailer-Daemon email returns but no one knows how to get rid of the problem.
