REIN--news is that they will EXCEED estimates

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Recovery Engineering Inc., a maker of drinking water systems, said Monday it expects sales and earnings for its fiscal third quarter ending October 3, 1999, to exceed analysts' estimates of $20 million in sales by at least 10 percent and estimates of $0.10 a share in earnings per share by up to 50 percent.

The company said these gains reflect sales of its household and outdoor water filtration products, based on preliminary information for the quarter.

''Wide consumer acceptance of our products and increases in our replacement filter sales continue to fuel our sales momentum,'' said Brian Sullivan, chairman and chief executive officer, in a statement.

In its year-ago third quarter, the company reported a loss $3.2 million or a loss of $0.53 a share on sales of $18.5 million.

Recovery Engineering makes drinking water systems under the PUR brand name. Its products are sold through more than 35,000 retail outlets in North America and through international distributors.
