For CPQ, (to me), unit sales matter less than revenue and profits. If CPQ is selling their very low-cost pc's at greater numbers, that's good - but unless they're making money, who's going to care?

Price pressures on CPQ are not unique to CPQ. All box-makers face the challenge of producing lower-cost computers. Volume will count. There are various estimates of PC-sales growth in 1999---I published one here yesterday from IDC (International Data Corp.) which said worldwide, the number of PCs shipped this year will increase by 14.3 percent over 1998 figures.

The Asian PC market is improving and the U.S. market remains strong.

I heard someone say the other day that Y2K has actually increased the demand for new computers, as well.

CPQ shipped more (1,949,000) computers last quarter than Dell did. (1,375,000) If you are working in the IT field, you know CPQ is a strong player with good products.
