The fallacy is that "liberals" cannot be macho, patriotic, all-American and even be great war heros. That is a stupid myth. It has very little to do with reality. Reagan may have played the part of a soldier in movies, but never was one, but JFK was a real war hero. Even Al Gore volunteered for 'Nam.
Notice that the current Bushie regime doesn't include a single combat veteran at its top ranks. Most of them are deliberate draft-dodgers and war profiteers. Yet they have gone out of their way to smear every single real war hero who has disagreed with them, even McCain in their own party. The political creeps and cretins who bash and smear real war heros like Kerry, Murtha, Cleland, Webb and Wes Clark are the real cowards and pansies. They have also done our country and our military tremendous harm, and even shafted wounded vets on health care.
To the dishonest rightwing propaganda machine, someone like me is a "left-wing secular progressive" (McCarthy called them "comunists" which meant "traitors" and Ann COulter parrots that stupid old hate talk). But actually, I am as all-American as they come, coming from a place where patriotism was a real thing, when people believed paying taxes, serving, obeying laws and taking care of fellow Americans was our patriotic duty. Now though, Bushies seem to care more about shieks in Dubai and windfall profits of Exxon CEO's than any real American values.
You have to ask yourself, where did all the real conservatives go? Conservatism used to mean caring about your country and countrymen. Now it means being out for your own selfish special interests and everyone else be damned. Sick, isn't it? |
