About those who who were there from that time:
If anybody were to have a bit part from here, I guess it would be Jim Clarke. (Where is that guy now?) He was a professional analyst and posted often here. Arguably he was the best stock picker of all who were here then. ... Well he may have had the most respect anyway. (Couple of guys who posted could contend, although they posted infrequently with not a lot of backup support discussion that Mike/Jim gave), and at least one is still here, still quietly posting good picks. (It is not me.)
Jim dropped out to become a manager of a small-cap value fund at one of the bigger mutual fund houses. I believe he and Mike were confidants on and off the thread - both sharing some common traits and interests --- both young guys starting out with not much money (Jim just starting a family), both able to delve deeply into a business, Jim adding to Mike's knowledge of balance sheet analyses, perhaps maybe also helping him break into the money management business.
