Ron, this part is a std. strategy in mcmillian and most books.
You sell a put and then buy a put at 2 to 3 strikes lower.
this reduces margin and gives you insurances against a collapse.

But, this part is my strategy. Stepping into the position by selling the naked put first on stk retreat. then buying the lower put on a rally so you aren't naked any more.
