If you listened to the realaudio of the government's action against Microsoft, this is exactly the point they make - that the technology
sector is very, very important for America's future; too important for it to be smothered by large monopolies. Actually Bill Gates, bless his poor uneducated heart, says the same thing - he compared the suit against MS to the suit against IBM, which distracted IBM and made them amenable to releasing the ownership rights for DOS to the small upstart that MS, in those days, was. He vowed that history would not repeat itself. Then in the next breath he says how great MS has been for the development of the industry and for consumers - ie. Bill, by his own reasoning, knows Justice did the right thing to IBM when it was a monopoly by giving MS a chance. Now that MS is the monopoly Justice must clip it's wings.
