Lots of guys will call in sick tomorrow and won't recover until a good earnings report from COMS. >>>

Wigglesworth,

Comment On COMS

"I share your view that 3COM (NASDAQ:COMS) may be the real longterm story in its group. However, I'm nervous that they've scheduled this Compaq announcement on the day they report earnings. Could they be preemptively countering a soft earnings report with a positive press release?"

Reply: 3Com's announcement about Compaq (NASDAQ:CPQ) is expected this week and will probably be focused on the PC maker using 3Com Ethernet cards. The timing of this had more to do with the fact that chip king Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) inked a deal with Compaq for a newer, faster Ethernet card. So now 3Com must fend off Intel in the Ethernet market and also play musical chair with its press releases to be seen as keeping up with the Groves (as in Andy, Intel's CEO). After all, only the paranoid survive, or those with extremely strong market positions in one industry trying to leverage into brand new endeavors to ensure fantastic growth.

Anybody think COMS is using the CPQ announcement to counter a soft earning report? (Hope not)
