that's possible. i read somewhere that apparently no physical metal changes hands as a result of the BoE auctions. i can't really verify that - however, it would jibe with your idea that they have leased out most of their gold and see no chance of getting it back.

also, i firmly believe that in order to support the dollar fiat explosion (currently the global dollar inflation runs at almost 12% annualized) it is necessary to keep gold suppressed, and the BoE plays a role in this game.
