Royal Bank Gets VoIP Phones from Bell Canada
By Johanne Torres TMCnet Contributing Editor
Bell Canada announced on Tuesday that it will convert RBC Financial Group’s approximately 1,300 branch offices from a legacy frame relay network to a consolidated IP Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.
This past January, the telecom giant had announced that it would work with its partners Cisco Systems (News - Alert) Canada and IBM (News - Alert) Canada to implement a managed system for RBC, converting approximately 8,400 of the bank’s phone lines to VoIP at its head office location.
“At RBC we are continuously identifying innovative solutions that enhance our client service and help grow our business,” said RBC’s executive vice president of IT infrastructure Dick Swadley in a stetement. “Bell is providing us with a single, consolidated next-generation solution for all of our branches and moves us to a much more functional, flexible and strategic platform while continuing to deliver high quality service and support to our customers.”
The news follows Bell Canada’s announcement last month about teaming up with enterprise VoIP application provider Cistera Networks by inking a reseller agreement which will enable the Bell to become the company’s Premier Solutions Partner (PSP) for the Canadian market. Bell Canada joinedAT&T ( News - Alert) and Comstor, a division of Westcon Group, Inc., as a Cistera PSP.
