It's well documented. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's a lot of history behind Colby's statement. Coincidentally Colby had an "accident" a couple years after he told stories out of school, btw, something about falling out of his fishing boat without a lifejacket.

Not that it mattered. Google "Operation Mockingbird" for a few dozen articles over the years. It's the primary activity of the intel agencies, who have been most proud of their control of the media in the US and around the world.

Here's some history, under "The Mighty Wurlitzer", a phrase coined by media subversion expert Frank Wizner under Allen Dulles at the beginning of the CIA conversion from the WWII OSS.
