I don't see the bubble the way you described it. Sure, there were a number of companies that offered little to no value to the market place. However, there were plenty of companies that were creating jobs and generating revenue that ended up worthless because their businesses were built on faulty views of the future, a future based on lies from companies like WCOM and Enron who greatly inflated statistics like bandwidth usage and demand. Building developers who created buildings in the wrong area may never get a return on their investment just like many of the companies who thought they would be able to spend money to build businesses based on phone, internet and/or wireless subscribers. Many of these companies had 5 or more year plans which the venture capitalists initially approved, only to find that their funding for their multi-year plans disappeared after the first couple of years, long before any economies of scale could be achieved.
