here's a way to visualize what's happening in time travel..

imagine a time traveler stepping into a transparent sphere to time travel a 1000 years into the future. suppose he could travel fast enough to make the trip in a day. for people outside the sphere, they would see his body movement slow down to nearly frozen. he would appear dead because his breathing and heart rate would be so slow. every day for centuries people could see him in essentially the same position or move very gradually over the years. but to the traveler inside the sphere, the rest of the world would become a blur as he quickly moved forward in time. trees and other things would grow and die before him (at least most would die). as he got ready to exit the sphere, his body movements would return to normal speed for observers and the world would return to normal speed for him too. then he would step out of the sphere and there would have been no 'poof' of a sudden disappearance or appearance. everything on both sides is continuously observable.
