>>If you are right about 56k being enough then why are all the BIG GORILLAS are investing
in wireless technology?

I see nothing incompatable between medium rate data rates being sufficient for current wireless data needs and the big players scrambling for a share in a burgeoning market.

I'm not suggesting that 56k is a limit. I am suggesting that there is a trade off between high data rates and other services. The service providers will control that trade off, driven by market demand.
For now, with the relatively low cellular useage in the US, the
service providers will be focussing on increasing Voice subscribers.

With current technology, increasing data services will be detrimental to voice services. This problem will be ameliorated by technologies like WAP and web clipping.
