I've never heard of Dibs, but I'm familiar with the botched circumcision/ gender change story, which is psychiatry at its worst, IMO. There are indeed phonies in all feels, and frankly I think a field where practitioners yield a great deal of power over the fate of other people (I am thinking of the medical and psychiatric professions here) tends to attract folks who enjoy that kind of control. It's a power that is VERY difficult to use wisely and humanely. How about some of Munro's short stories for a first read?
