John, dual channel SDRAM systems exist, even at the low end. See tomshardware.com . This is not going to be a big market success, as it's dependent on a processor that isn't widely available, but it is supposed to be a low end solution. Anyway, it's somewhat dubious for bus people to be making judgements about market success. I'm not sure that S/370 rambus boards even exist. The other low end solution is the Microsoft X-box, which has the equivalent of dual channel DDR and again UMA graphics. UMA graphics is the main reason for interest in high bandwidth at the low end.

Of course, if low end dual channel SDRAM solutions are feasible, it's left as an exercise to the reader to decide if high end solutions are feasible. I'm sure by the prevalent logic of this thread, it's obviously impossible for some reason or other.
