Quanta Computer to ship 2.5-3 million handsets in 2006

Quanta Computer may ship only 2.5-3.0 million handsets in 2006, meeting only 50-60% of its target for 2006 as clients, including Panasonic, Siemens and Philips, adjusted their outsourcing plans, according to market sources.

For 2007, Quanta is expected to be able to boost its handset shipments by one million units to 3.5-4.0 million since the company recently has secured orders from Hewlett-Packard (HP), O2 Asia Pacific as well as a Japanese vendor, the sources noted.

The company will start volume shipments of a 3G PDA phone, using chipset solutions from Qualcomm, to O2 Asia in the first quarter of 2007, the sources added.
