Your right on the money about Komag/WD. Already the WD media folks here are looking at their options (and I don't mean stock options!).

For Komag to add the WD media capacity to that which they are already under utilizing would be nuts. On the other hand adding production in the Malaysia plant makes their cost structure potentially better.

Some argue that the WD media tool set was in worse shape than Komag's and already depreciated to around $15 million. So not much of any worth there.

I think we're going to see more of this "alliance strategy" between merchant component folks and the HDD manufacturers. I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the Maxtor media going from Komag to HMT and Maxtor lining up with HMT and MaxMedia on such an alliance.
