I am not the best person here to answer this kind of question -- RDM, Paul E are better equiped.

Let me give a try -- AMD gives its fab name based on its anniversary year. i.e. Fab 25's completion year was when AMD was in business for 25th year. Fab 30 is for the 30th anniversary.
