More compressed crap for sale? Is that what you're saying? Apple talks a lot about the year of high definition but then you're saying they're going to go out and sell people highly compressed low quality movies to watch on an iPod?

Why would you expect a different approach than they've taken with music and TV shows? Frankly, many (most?) people probably won't even notice or care as most consumers are coming from previous generations of low quality analog or digital gear... what % of customers even have a digital TV these days? I would guess that H.264 at VHS resolution (not quality) would be fine for most customers as it would be on par with everything else they're watching.

Apple did deliver on the 'year of HD' in that every mac, their video apps, and QT support HD. It's just that most of the real world won't care until it all becomes dirt-cheap and Apple knows the market. (My prediction for market reaction to Blu-Ray and HD-DVD: a non-event for at least a few years)

Real DVDs are going for $9.99 these days. I'll buy these any day over a compressed-to the-hilt version.

That's what I do. Then again, I haven't bought anything from the iTMS or even a ringtone for my phone. There's a large market of people who don't seem to care about quality or value for money the way we do. Guess we're just weird... I'm OK with that as long as the next tanker of rocket fuel for AAPL arrives on time ;-)
