Instead of focusing on a very hazy future, why not look at a very clear past:

But seriously, you cant expect the tulip mania to reappear after many people lost their shirts chasing those vanishing profits.

At any given moment in time, the only real valuation (not stock price) of a company is its past performance and EXPECTED future. Its that damn expectation that causes all the problems for investors. If you expect too low but invest nevertheless you get pleasantly surprised if the results are better than expected and ok if they are as expected. If you expect too high but the results are lower, you get the shock of your life.
