Of the 1400 members of the national media who were surveyed:

44% considered themselves Democrats
16% Repubs
34% independents
89% voted for Clinton in 1992
7% voted for Bush in 1992

The voting records of those in the mainstream media are consistently above 80% Democrat, under 20% Republican.

The view that the media is "too liberal" is shared among a plurality of Americans:

35% Just about right
15% Too conservative

Same survey also shows that Democrats trust the media more than Republicans, which isn't too surprising given that the media is mostly Democrat.

Liberal bias in the media has even been confirmed from within, such as people at Newsweek and ABC. A well-known Newsweek editor admitted in 2004 that the media was supporting John Kerry, and that was probably worth about 10 percentage points in the polls. (No link, just memory.)

Christiane Amanpour of CNN held a media conference in 2000 on how to stop George W. Bush. Here's a keynote speech she gave in September 2000 where she couldn't resist making a comment about Bush's qualifications (but nothing about Gore, whom she obviously loves):
