Comverse Technology's Network Systems Division Selected by CTI Movil of Argentina to Supply Enhanced Services Platforms for Voice Messaging for CTI's Nationwide Digital Wireless Network

October 26, 1998 07:59 AM

WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1998--Initial Contract Valued at More Than $4 Million

Comverse to Supply CTI Movil With Its Distributed System Architecture Utilizing Voice/Fax Over IP Backbone Network, Providing Cost-Effective Nationwide Local Message Access For Subscribers

Comverse Network Systems, a division of Comverse Technology, Inc. (CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of enhanced services platforms to wireless and wireline network operators, today announced it has been selected by CTI Compania de Telefonos del Interior, S.A. of Argentina (CTI Movil) for the deployment of voice/fax messaging systems throughout CTI Movil's nationwide digital wireless network.

The initial order, which is valued at more than $4 million, calls for Comverse's distributed system architecture configuration, which offers network operators reductions in transmission costs, while making messaging more attractive to subscribers by allowing nationwide message retrieval through a local call. Comverse's distributed architecture, which is founded on a managed Internet Protocol (IP) high speed backbone network, allows for the deployment of platforms in multiple sites, dispersed throughout a country or region, while maintaining the operational profile and integrity of a conventional centralized system installation.

Ing. Nestor Bergero, Director of Technology at CTI Movil said, "We selected Comverse to replace our current supplier due to their outstanding reputation for system performance and reliability, and also because their distributed architecture configuration offers savings in transmission costs, facilitates system maintenance and operation, and allows us to offer nationwide local message retrieval for subscribers."

"We are pleased to have our enhanced services platforms selected by CTI Movil for their digital wireless network," said Kobi Alexander, chairman, president, and CEO of Comverse Technology. "More than 150 digital wireless network operators have selected Comverse to provide systems that enable the provision of an expanding range of revenue-generating enhanced services. We are also pleased that CTI Movil has selected our distributed system architecture, which offers several advantages over centralized system configurations, particularly for large and/or geographically dispersed telecommunications networks."

About Comverse Network Systems' Distributed System Architecture

Comverse's distributed system enables network operators with large, geographically dispersed networks to operate and administer platforms deployed at multiple sites as a single system, significantly reducing operational costs. Because subscriber administration and platform maintenance are performed from a central location, the need for dedicated system administrators at each site is eliminated.

Comverse's distributed architecture offers a unique advantage for both wireless and wireline network operators in providing ubiquitous access to their enhanced services networks. Calls accessing the network of systems are handled by the nearest platform, with the relevant subscriber information retrieved from other nodes in the network. This feature streamlines network routing and saves wireless and wireline operators the burden of handling complicated routing tables for the specific enhanced services platform. It also significantly reduces the transmission costs and traffic congestion associated with "back-hauling" calls and messages to a central/remote system. For subscribers, it means messages can be retrieved from anywhere within the network for the cost of a local call.

Comverse's distributed architecture utilizes innovative Voice/Fax over IP technology for routing calls and messages over a managed IP network. Comverse is the first supplier of enhanced services platforms to wireless and wireline network operators to offer such a product.
