Sylvester, I wonder who to believe? Semico, or Dataquest and In-Stat?
To date I think Semico has been the most accurate.
But you're missing a key element here, Micron. According to their presentation, Micron shipped ~24% of all DRAM bits last quarter. (They more than doubled market share in the past two years).
If you have any knowledge of marketing, you must be aware that a major function is to understand future requirements for products. They work continuously with the consumers to understand their future needs, and plan products and production accordingly. (Additionally, they have some impact on the decisions of the consumers).
Who do you think is better at forecasting, the memory producers or the market analysts?
The biggest unknown for us are the future plans for P4. But I have to assume that the consumers of P4 have some insight, and this is shared with the memory producers. Both the producers and consumers have a strong business need to keep future plans in sync.
And please don't post some wild conspiracy rumors in response.
