RE: Deja Vu All Over Again.
I posted this over on the Yahoo thread. Thought the readers here might find it interesting, too:
I was reading through some old SyQuest press releases and found this really interesting statement:
>> The EZ135 product, which is a 135 megabyte removable cartridge disk drive with a retail price of $239, commenced shipping in August and continues to have a backlog exceeding the company's ability to produce. The company expects to ship between 50,000 to 75,000 drives as well as 200,000 to 300,000 cartridges this quarter on the EZ135 product. <<
Compare that to this more recent release [12/4/97]:
>> SyQuest also reported it expects to ship all SparQ products scheduled for manufacture this quarter, nearly 50,000 SparQ drives and 90,000 SparQ cartridges. As previously announced, current unit volume backlog for SparQ products exceeds the highest backlog of orders ever reached by any SyQuest product, including the award-winning SyJet drive. <<
For SyQuest's sake, I hope that the similarities end there.
