That was back in 1983, and judging from the stellar performance of INTC over the last 16 years, I'd say that Intel was laughing all the way to the bank.

Meanwhile, Samsung is still stung by IMF. (Well, not the IMF itself, of course. In Korea, the acronym "IMF" has become an expression for the current economic depression occuring there.)
