She_x (from the Yahoo thread), who usually has good insights into the comings and goings at CPQ, seemed to indicate that this was a "command performance" driven by the board. Left to their own devices I suspect that EP and EM would just have waited for the earnings announcement. According to her, they got called in on the carpet on friday morning - just EP and EM, no one else was allowed in - and spent several hours behind closed doors with the BOD.
