Interesting. One problem with Corning's strategy may be that one big equipment manufacturer--Lucent--will probably be very reluctant to buy Corning's modules/components because they are competitors in the optical fiber market. Between them they control the manufacture and patents for non-zero, dispersion shifted fiber and its most recent variants which all of the service providers want. Corning could be more successful selling to the other OEMs however.
