I would not buy AMD now. What we are seeing is potentially only the beginning of a slowdown. If the market dips enough to reflect an actual recession bargains will abound in much better investment alternatives. Not to mention the fact that if you must have AMD as a stock it too will be selling at even lower levels.

Bottom line... don't focus only on one stock. Do not single out one industry or sector of the market.

Defensive sectors are doing best right now. Considering the amount of uncertainty that is being overlooked, in my opinion, prices for stocks in general could fall much further this year or next after the election. Especially in the Bush tax cuts do not continue.

When the market falls substantially and the II Poll has more bears than bulls then buy something.

Sell puts even on AMD but it's just not a safe bet yet. As I look through the semiconductor and semi equipment landscape for oversold stocks I find many that are selling below book value. AMD has a book value roughly 3 times higher than where it trades now. AMD could get a lot cheaper.
