AIAG "Trouble with 2000": A few REAL examples.
Most people know that the turn of the century will cause problems due to the common practice of representing the year portion of a date as two digits. But many don't know exactly what those problems are. Here are a few examples:

- Certain robot controllers will either lock up or think the date is 1/1/1980.
- Certain CNCs roll over from 1999 to 100.
- Some automatic storage & retrieval systems (ASRS) will select incorrect items due to a ...date malfunction.
- Several barcoding systems already do not print tags for dates after 12/31/99.
- Some manufacturing resource planning (MRP) software packages will not operate ...properly when the year "2000" is introduced.
- Most Windows applications have date limitations hard-coded.
- The ROM BIOS chip in your PC may interpret dates after 12/31/99 incorrectly.
- Non-year-2000-ready security systems may inappropriately restrict access.
- Several time-keeping systems will not function after 12/31/99.
- Some conveyor-control systems may malfunction and prohibit the execution of ...scheduled production after the year 2000.
- The first year 2000-related lawsuit, due to incorrectly programmed product instructions, ..was filed recently.
- Some estimates of damages from year 2000 liability lawsuits top $1 trillion.
